A few days after the assault and murder of a Catholic priest, the Filipino army has deployed soldiers around churches and convents to protect against further kidnappings or violence. On the island of Tawi-Tawi, Jesus Rey A. Roda, was allegedly killed by members of Abu Sayyaf on January 16, 2008 while resisting kidnappers. The Abu Sayyaf, listed as a terror organization by the United States, Europe, and the Philippines, are trying to drive the Christian minority out of the southern Philippines. Muslim extremists are angered by conversions to Christianity and point out that Muslim scripture calls for those who convert to be executed.
PRAY for this military measure to be effective in protecting the churches and convents in this area of southern Philippines.
PRAY for the church leaders to be strong in their proclamation of Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and that many Muslims will accept Christ as their Lord and Savior.
PRAY for members of the Abu Sayyaf to be drawn by the peaceful and loving actions of the believers they are attempting to harm and destroy.
As in the days of Noah....
